Gene tests for prostate cancer may be possible
“Scientists have isolated a set of 13 gene defects that can be used to identify men who are most at risk of developing life-threatening prostate cancer," The Independent reports.
Arguably the biggest challenge in treating prostate cancer is it’s unpredictably. In many men it is slow growing and causes no or very few symptoms. In other men it can be highly aggressive and quickly spread out of the prostate leading to fatal complications. Around 10,000 men die from prostate cancer each year in the UK.

Councils want social networks to introduce Neknominate warnings
Social networking sites Facebook and Twitter should introduce warnings over the drinking game Neknominate, councils in England and Wales have said.
The game, which involves people filming themselves downing alcohol and then nominating someone else to continue, has been linked to several deaths.
The Local Government Association (LGA) called Neknominate a "totally irresponsible craze".
It said social media companies have a responsibility to show health warnings.

Children with cancer 'denied drugs because of EU rules'
EU rules must be changed to allow more testing of potentially life-saving cancer drugs on children, say experts.
The UK's Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) says the current system acts as a disincentive to drug companies who can seek waivers to avoid doing the trials.
Of 28 new cancer drugs approved in the EU for adults since 2007, 26 could potentially work in children, but 14 have been exempted from child testing.
The ICR wants these "class waivers" to be scrapped.
